Tamas penned a three-year contract, plus a further year's option in the club's favour, in July 2010 after impressing in a four-month spell on loan from Auxerre last season.
His arrival in the Baggies' Championship campaign provided head coach Roberto Di Matteo with much-needed cover in central defence following Abdoulaye Meite's departure for African Nations Cup duty.
The 6ft 2in player had just completed a second loan spell at Dinamo Bucharest before his arrival in England.
His Albion form alongside Jonas Olsson at the heart of defence saw him win back his place in the Romania squad in March 2010 after missing out in new boss Razvan Lucescu's first three games.
He was part of his country's Euro 2008 squad and has also played for the likes of Galatasaray, Spartak Moscow and Celta Vigo.
Tamas had 44 international caps to his name and had scored three times for his country when he arrived at The Hawthorns.
He also made nine Under-21s appearances for Romania, scoring once.
In total, the Brasov-born defender has made 195 league appearances, scoring ten times.
